Chanterelles in late August

These were found on the west side of Santiam Pass about 3800 feet in a marshy area that is no longer marshy, at least for now.  They come up every year in the same spot every year (for 30 years.). Check your sites.  If you are looking for sites, check out your USFS map for springs and damp areas near springs. It was hard to find them in the dense undergrowth, but we knew they must be fruiting, so we did side dances with our feet to uncover the golden treasures.
