38 people tuned in to our Zoom meeting with Dr. Spatafora to hear about the Oregon Fungi Herbarium, meet the new curator, Dr. Jesse Uehling, and hear how our club can become part of the Oregon Fungal Diversity Project. His team would like to come to Bend and help us get started on collecting, identify and submitting specimens for the collection. The most exciting moment, though, was when he introduced a mycologist who now resides in Bend and recently joined our club! Ariel Cowan specializes on the mycelial aspect of fungal growth but will be able to share her skills in mycroscopy - using a microscope to identify features of fungi. We look forward to being part of this endeavor to honour our own fungal diversity in Central Oregon, which is grossly underrepresented in Oregon's fungal herbarium collection.
