Amanita muscaria – Fly Agaric

Central Oregon’s beauty queen of mushrooms

Much has been written about this beautiful mushroom and the fall never passes without several postings of its photos. An interesting observation is that this is an indicator species for Boletus edulis, the King Bolete, so keep that in mind when you find it and look around for Porcini!  The Fly Agaric has a colorful history and will provide fascinating reading if you google the name for more information. Suffice it to say that this is not a recommended edible mushroom. One local student ended up in the ER after ingesting this for recreation.
