COMC June 19th meeting

COMC June 19 meeting, Last meeting of the season
Morels have been elusive for many of us this spring. We worked much harder than last year for what we harvested though some members had phenomenal luck in small sections of the forest. Spring Kings, however, are still coming up at high elevations in the Cascades. They are worth your time to pick and process though they get quite buggy in the heat. Meanwhile, our fascination with fungi motivates us to explore all aspects of the fungal kingdom.
“Medicinal Mushrooms – Miracle or Magical Thinking” is the title of Nancy Pietroski’s presentation on June 19, Thursday, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 469 NW Wall in downtown Bend, 6:30-8 PM. Nancy Pietroski, PharmD, is a clinical pharmacist from Bend and an active board member of COMC. She is certified in wilderness and travel medicine and is a USFS volunteer ranger, a member of Mt. Bachelor’s National Ski Patrol, and an avid mushroom forager. Nancy will share her explorations into the efficacy of popular
medicinal mushrooms.

We will also have time to talk about our spring mushroom adventures, like our very popular spring campout and the future plans for our membership. If you have found mushrooms, either in the woods or on your property, please bring them for our show and tell table. The next official club meeting will be Thursday, September 18. Fall field trips also start up about that time. Our fall members-only campout is scheduled for September 26-28, so stay in touch for more details.
Enjoy your summer!
