May Mushroom Club Meeting

It’s mushroom season, though it’s still a little early for morels in much of Central Oregon.  We look forward to seeing you May 15 at our next mushroom club meeting to share stories of mushroom finds, forays and lots of hints as to where to find more. In case you have trouble finding morels, this presentation will teach you how to return home with other forest edibles. We will meet at Trinity Episcopal Church, 469 NW Wall, in downtown Bend at 6:30-8 PM, in the Brooks Hall.
Edible and Medicinal Plants of Central Oregon
with Sarah Olson
Join us for an exciting and informative session with local herbalist Sarah Olson as she takes us through the lush world of spring foraging. In this presentation, Sarah will share her insights on the plants and mushrooms that are beginning to appear in our Central Oregon hunting grounds. We will explore how to properly identify these springtime treasures, whether they are safe to eat, and their medicinal properties. You will also learn about ethical harvesting practices to ensure sustainable foraging, as well as techniques for processing your finds.
Whether you’re a seasoned forager of just getting started, this talk will deepen your understanding of the local landscape and help you connect with nature in a meaningful way.

Sarah’s journey into herbalism began with a personal search for better health, leading her from diet and supplements to a deep study of plant medicine. She formally trained at Greenwood Herbals in Maine and expanded her knowledge through hands-on learning across the U.S. and Ecuador, exploring regional herbal traditions. Now based back in Bend, Oregon, she blends her experience in herbal formulation, foraging, and teaching to help others reconnect with nature. She spends most “work days” doing this at The Peoples Apothecary. Through her newest venture, ForestWise Collective, Sarah offers private workshops, consultations, and hands-on learning experiences that bridge ancient herbal wisdom with modern living.
