October 15, Thursday evening, begins a series of activities for our 10th annual Fungi Fest! Dr. Else Vellinga will talk about the amazing characteristics and behaviors of spores on Thursday, October 15, 6:30 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 469 NW Wall in downtown Bend. $5 donation requested. Please join us for this special event that starts three days of fungi fun!
From Else Vellinga: “Mushrooms are all about spores – they produce them in dazzling numbers! They come in all kinds of sizes and shapes, some have to germinate right away, others can lay in the soil for years – Enjoy a talk featuring all the above, and much more!”
Else got interested in mushrooms when she was a masters student back in the Netherlands in the eighties. She specialized in the taxonomy of parasol mushrooms, and is intrigued by everything we do not know about these organisms. She has been studying mushrooms ever since; the last 27 years in Berkely, CA. Besides finding and studying mushroom, she loves to knit, and often uses mushroom dyes for her yarns.
