September Meeting with Beth Johnson attended by 30+ on Zoom

Beth Johnson, botanist on the Deschutes National Forest in the Sisters Ranger District, shared her experience with a handful of rare and sensitive fungi species in our forests. Her work involves monitoring and surveying areas for those identified fungi that may need protection. She provided identification tips and ways for members of the Central Oregon Mushroom Club to get involved including looking for these rare species while out foraging, including revisiting and monitoring known sites to help us improve the data that is now very dated.  Beth provided many online resources for those struggling to identify mushrooms and links to government publications that list species in Oregon that are classified as sensitive or needing to be surveyed  and managed.
